garden moodboard - august 2013

I'm joining Karin and Åsa with a monthly moodboard for August - a collection of seasonal flowers, and foliage from the garden. This month was tricky, not because flowers were hard to find, it was taking the shots this time. I chose lunchtime on a sunny day, the room was hot, the flowers were wilting, and the sun was casting crazy shadows. But I quite like the effect - sunny colours basking in the bright sun while the dusky hues linger in the shade.

marfs visit

A couple of weeks back our dear friend Martha came to visit with her little boy Noah. We spent the day in the garden catching up as well as hurtling round on our bikes pretending to be some kind of little train!

randoms

Just a couple of images I found from this summer, random shots. The sky looks nothing like this today, but we've all those beautiful autumn skies to come lets hope there are a few more summer skies first.

sweden - art

We visited several galleries during our stay in Sweden though I took barely any pictures to share here. Thielska Galleriet was my absolute favourite - one man's collection of mainly Scandinavian art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, displayed in what was once his home including works by Edvard Munch and Oskar Bergman. The rather grand house maintained a homely feel, with the most wonderful light, reminding me a little of Kettles Yard here in the UK [a favourite place of mine]. Also in Stockholm we visited Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde - even grander still the home of Prince Eugen. Here I loved the way plants shared the gallery space with the paintings [something else you find at Kettles yard]. Finally in complete contrast, the Moderna Museet where we were lucky to catch some great temporary exhibitions including Niki de Saint Phalle and Tala Madani

These images were all taken in Gothenburg, in the huge creative space Röda Sten with the exception of the bottom image, which was pasted to the wall directly below where we stayed.

More from Sweden here.

There are so many pictures of our holiday that I'd like to share here. I'll do so over the coming weeks, a few here and a few there. I must try and include some other non-holiday posts too I know!

sweden - nature I

I adored being in the Swedish countryside, so lush and so green. Scabious and red currents growing wild in hedgerows.

sweden - relaxing

We holidayed in Sweden this year, 8 days spent exploring, experiencing and relaxing. We started in Stockholm, then hired a car and journeyed west into the countryside, before reaching our final destination, Gothenburg. We window shopped in cities, visited galleries, and explored supermarkets [one of my favourite things to do abroad]. In the countryside we took drives, walked, swam in the lake, relaxed at the cottage and rummaged through loppis.
