introducing chicken and pingu

On Saturday, two little chicks joined our family. Chicken (tortoiseshell) and Pingu (black/grey)!

Our lovely duck, Tit, had become very broody and had started sitting on a couple of eggs, however not wanting to add more ducks to our brood we decided to replace her eggs with those of chickens. Tit then saved us the task of incubating the eggs ourselves and on Saturday, like clock-work (21 days later), out these two popped! We bought Chicken and Pingu indoors to our brooder, being chickens they wouldn't have taken kindly to Tit teaching them to swim. Very exciting times here right now as we witness first hand these delightful little chicks grow up. These images were taken when they were just a day old.

  1. Hey Polly,
So cute. I remember bringing Beryl and Jean home at ten days old. Today Beryl got in through the window, sat on my dining room table and pooped...

  2. Just like Cheep when I hand reared him in my studio 3 years ago. And yes Cheep is a boy! I hope your chicks are female xx

    1. I just had a look at Cheep, what a handsome fellow. We are so intrigued as to the sex of these two (I'm wondering if Pingu could be a boy too).
